Sister Carol Zinn SSJ Meets With Pope Francis

April 20, 2015

Meeting Pope Francis was an “unbelievable experience” for Sister Carol Zinn SSJ. As Past President of the Leadership Conference for Women Religious (LCWR), Sister Carol Zinn SSJ and three other leaders had the great privilege to meet with Pope Francis on April 16, 2015. The sisters were in Rome for their annual meeting with various Vatican officials. At that meeting, Pope Francis discussed topics from his apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (“The Joy of the Gospel”). Much of the conversation focused on what Pope Francis refers to as the global economy of exclusion.

Sister Carol spoke with The National Catholic Reporter’s Joshua J. McElwee about the 50-minute meeting. In his April 20, 2015 article, McElwee writes:

“Zinn said the meeting was an ‘unbelievable experience’ because of Francis' ability to connect with those with whom he is meeting. Comparing their sit-down with the pope to images of him making connections with the crowds in St. Peter's Square, she said: ‘It's real.’ "
