Associate in Mission, Bonnie Slagle, from York, Pennsylvania shares how she is living the Mission and sharing the charism with the dear neighbor…

I belong to a group at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, PA. I have been with that group for about five years, and they have probably been making quilts for over ten years. We gather every Monday morning in the church basement to sew and quilt using fabric that is donated by many generous folks in the area. Our quilts are given to immigrants, the homeless, the Rescue Mission, fire victims, and anyone in need. Last year we donated twenty quilts to Sr. Eileen McNally’s refugee outreach, gave several quilts to be raffled off at the Swing for the Sisters Golf Tournament, several to victims of fires, to Covenant House in York, and to the women’s shelter in York.
I feel honored to care for the dear neighbor, both at the margins and beside us in the ordinary circumstances of our lives, through this wonderful ministry.
