Earth Day is celebrated on Saturday, April 22, 2023. The theme for 2023 is, “Invest in Our Planet.” This theme’s focus is recognized to engage governments, institutions, businesses and the more than 1 billion citizens who participate annually and are vested in taking accountability for the care and conservation of the Earth. Earth Day is celebrated all over the world in more than 193 countries. This day was first celebrated in 1970 thanks to Senator Gaylord of Wisconsin. For years Gaylord worked tirelessly to educate people and raise public awareness in the U.S. He worked along with Representative Pete McCloskey, California congressmen and activist to organize campus teach-ins across the country on April 22.
The Earth Day 2023 theme, “Invest in Our Planet” is aimed to accelerate changes toward green initiatives and the green revolutions, which is aimed to fight for the health of future generations and create a 21st century economy that will focus on the health and protection of our planet, and the protection of all species. The United Nations recognizes Earth Day as Mother Earth Day. This celebration urges a call to action. Recognizing climate change, disruption in biodiversity, deforestation, intensified agriculture, illegal wildlife trade, and the speed of destruction of the planet are issues in the fore front of the damaged ecosystem we continue to face in this global movement to restore balance to our planet.
